So Dark is the New Moon Mind

I feel down in the dumps. Looking at the calendar I can see part of the reason .. New Moon is tonight. The farm is pitch black tonight, the cold damp weather has the air feeling heavy and the wildlife bedded down. There is no movement tonight. No bats or owls, no songbirds or crickets, no peepers … it feels like winter has moved into the valley.

The New Moon is always on my low cycle. I’ve never studied biorhythms in depth but have come to learn my own body and have been aware of my mental states and there is no doubt that my highs and lows correspond with the moon phases.

The time of year don’t help matters. As we move into the cold weather the air smells more stagnant, less sunshine, and the worries of heating bills and holidays settle on our minds. Being aware of these changes is part of the battle, finding time to exorcise, enjoy mid day sun and plan the season better then last year are all on the agenda.

My optimism feels shadowed this year by self doubt and responsibilities that feel heavier on my shoulders then years past. Surviving the last two winters out here in our desolate valley was quite a challenge. And while I am proud of our success - I can’t say that I am looking forward to the torture of it again already.

With all of our lost income streams this year it looks like we may have to rent the old farm house out if we can get the water problem solved. That is a separate story for another day … I am living in the old house and really liked it down here and do not look forward to moving back up to the new house, but it may be the only chance for survival this winter with the bills as high as they are. Renting out my house …. oh I can’t imagine sharing my property with strangers.

Maybe we will find a nice couple that can enjoy this land like we do, but chances are slim that others would appreciate the beauty in the nothingness like we do. I have been house hunting incase I can’t find renters or enough supplemental income to cover the winter bills out here. The places I have looked at thus far have been very discouraging.

As the moon blossoms with reflection my attitude and outlook should brighten as well, then maybe I will see the opportunities that are hidden from me tonight.

P/E RATIO — The percentage of investors wetting their pants as the market keeps crashing.

PROFIT — An archaic word no longer in use.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you will have $49.00 today.
If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you will have $33.00 today.
If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you will have $0.00 today.
But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling refund, you will have received a $214.00.
Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.

is FirstWebSearch a Scam or just total dickheads?

This entry is part 2 of 4 in the series SEO Scam Drama

Ok let me give you a little background about the bullshit this company has put me through. They just can’t leave me alone. If they did, I wouldn’t be aggravated and writing this tonight. I was threatened again tonight by FirstWebSearch for a post I made about them being a scam. Yes I called them a scam - and they just keep reminding me over and over what a scam they are… I wanted to forget this embarrassing business transaction that was played out against my emotion and desperation to start a new home business project. They can’t seem to let me forget it, so let’s reminisce shall we?

To Those Born During the Years 1920-1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn’t get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren’t overweight because,

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem..

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD’s, no surround-sound or CD’s, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or chat rooms…….

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good. While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave (and lucky) their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn’t it?

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
“With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?”

A Family Poem

F A M I L Y

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
‘Oh excuse me please’ was my reply.
He said, ‘Please excuse me too;
I wasn’t watching for you.’
We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.
But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.
Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.
When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
‘Move out of the way,’ I said with a frown.
He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn’t realize how harshly I’d spoken.
While I lay awake in bed,
God’s still small voice came to me and said,
‘While dealing with a stranger,
Common courtesy you use,
But the family you love, you seem to abuse..
Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You’ll find some flowers there by the door.
Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.
He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
You never saw the tears that filled his little eyes .’
By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall. .
I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
‘Wake up, little one, wake up,’ I said.
‘Are these the flowers you picked for me?’
He smiled, ‘I found ‘em, out by the tree.
I picked ‘em because they’re pretty like you.
I knew you’d like ‘em, especially the blue.’
I said, ‘Son, I’m very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn’t have yelled at you that way.’
He said, ‘Oh, Mom, that’s okay.
I love you anyway.’
I said, ‘Son, I love you too,
And I do like the flowers, especially the blue.’

—– author unknown —-

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.
And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than into our own family, an unwise investment indeed, don’t you think?

ZEITGEIST: ADDENDUM

ZEITGEIST: ADDENDUM

NOW RELEASED
10/2/08

http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/

What is zeitgeist the movie?

‘Zeitgeist, The Movie’ and ‘Zeitgeist: Addendum’ were created as Not-for-Profit expressions to communicate what the author felt were highly important social understandings which most humans are generally not aware of. The first film focuses on suppressed historical & modern information about currently dominant social institutions, while also exploring what could be in store for humanity if the power structures at large continue their patterns of self-interest, corruption, and consolidation.

You can find the first Zeitgeist Movie in an older post on this blog here.

The second film, Zeitgeist: Addendum, (the movie shown above) attempt to locate the root causes of this pervasive social corruption, while offering a solution. This solution is not based on politics, morality, laws, or any other “establishment” notions of human affairs, but rather on a modern, non-superstitious based understanding of what we are and how we align with nature, to which we are a part. The work advocates a new social system which is updated to present day knowledge, highly influenced by the life long work of Jacque Fresco and The Venus Project.

The Zeitgeist Addendum summarizes into these actions for Social Transformation
  1. Expose The Fed Cartel (Boycott Citibank, JPMorgan Chase & Bank of America)
  2. Boycott The News Networks (Use and Protect the Internet)
  3. Boycott The Military
  4. Boycott The Energy Companies (Get off the grid & make your home & car self-sustainable)
  5. Reject The Political System (Focus on working to dissolve the outdated system of Politics, in favor of technological redesign)
  6. Create Critical Mass (http://www.thezeitgeistmovement.com)

The Burn Rate Diet

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Stop worshipping the scale, don’t expect exercise to work miracles, and quit blaming poor eating habits: the key to reaching an optimal weight and maintaining good health depends more on a person’s “burn rate” (basically, their metabolism) than any other factor. So argues Stephen R. Van Schoyck, Ph.D., clinical director of the Wellness Center at Frankford Hospital in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and author of this highly individualized approach to weight loss. His findings suggest that the amount or type of food a person consumes is less important than when they eat it or how effectively they “burn” it. After building a reasonable case for his theory (citing research studies from his 15 years in the weight management business and a few key scientific papers), Schoyck helps readers determine their own burn rate via a two-week test diet and a Web site that calculates the results (a complex, manual method is also provided).

He then offers calorie-counting strategies for planning meals on a weekly basis, focused on developing “a healthy relationship with food.” This term translates into hearty menu choices like a cheese omelet with bacon and chicken parmigiana. Schoyck also allows for occasional binges and favorite snacks. Whether a dieter finds this book inspirational or depressing will depend on a few key factors; most critically, the probable discovery that their “ideal” weight, according to Schoyck, is substantially higher than their perceived ideal. The good news: Schoyck asserts that sticking to his plan will prevent further weight gain and will promote better overall health. –Liane Thomas

Product Description
The Burn Rate Diet is an innovative, scientifically sound weight loss program that offers real hope for the disillusioned.

The Burn Rate Diet is the first diet that takes into account your individual metabolic–or burn–rate and helps you create a personalized eating plan. Unlike other diets that follow a one-size-fits-all approach, the Burn Rate Diet gives a scientifically sound method for calculating your metabolic rate and lets you precisely adjust your food consumption. By following this unique program, you’ll be able to set your appropriate weight goal based on your burn rate and attain your desired weight without feeling hungry. The Burn Rate Diet then offers guidance on how to maintain your target weight without the unhealthy weight cycling that’s so often the result of extreme dieting.

Based on fifteen years of research and the successful treatment of thousands of patients, Dr. Stephen Van Schoyck has formulated an innovative two-pronged strategy that caters to your individual biological and psychological needs. In this book you will learn how to match your own burn rate to the burn rates of food; you’ll read case histories of people who’ve struggled with the many stress factors that cause overeating, and who, through Dr. Van Schoyck’s intervention, have successfully left behind the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting; and you’ll better understand the role exercise plays in providing an overall sense of health and well-being. Dr.You’ll have fun creating your own Burn Rate Meal Plans to suit your tastes, and you’ll be able to chat with other Burn Rate Diet users and have your questions answered by Dr. Van Schoyck.

The Burn Rate Diet will take away the shame of being overweight; boost your energy level and vitality; and lead to hunger-free, permanent weight loss that will result in a thinner, fitter, and happier you.

Bookshelf Listings - Wordpress Trial of Category Plugins

newlibrary I am trying to create a small reference library of my private collection books. While posting them into a category here on the blog it seems the book listings were taking over my front page. Just like the real books are taking over my house …

So I am installing a plugin that allows me to exclude certain categories from showing up on the home page of my wordpress installation.

The plugin being used is called Simply Exclude.

To access my bookshelf  you can use the link at the top of this blog. This first page you wordpress-logowill see is a list of my book titles. This headline listing of post titles out of a category into one page is done by another plugin called Category Page.  - Gotta love Wordpress :)

Clicking on any of the book titles will take you to a description of the book and a Amazon.com link to the title in case you want to read more reviews or order yourself a copy.

The books in my private library are being posted while I am in the processes of inventory management out here on the farm with the book business going back in action with the cooler weather approaching.

Now if only there was a plugin that would clean the office …
